Luckily in January I ran central lancs half as my wife gave me her place and also the four villages half as so far its looking like nothing on till December when the lads return to Malaga. That’s a long time with no racing
My A race was going to be Ironman Hamburg with the week away with the family few days before and afterwards. Me and the wife have been well organised for a change , I had a long bike ride the Cheshire cat sportive in the last weekend of march booked then we had Manchester marathon planned in for April. We both had a sprint tri mine first then hers two weeks later then i was going to build for outlaw half at Nottingham early in the season in may then training would have been split between us as soon as open water started. We planned to swim together and out for bike rides with her aim to beat time for her 70.3 on 14th of June then on the Wednesday the plan was to fly to hamburg and me do the Ironman on the 21st. I’ve carried on training and had a really strong winter and have been really consistent for a change and now the season has been pulled from under my feet.
Things have been rearranged and other things are up in the air. Every year since it started i have done the Wigan 10k but now it clashes with a festival that’s had to cancel! Because they have changed it to the Saturday and the half marathon on the Sunday I either lose the festival or two races.
Cheshire Cat is now 20th September and outlaw x 70.3 may be my only tri this year on 27th September. Manchester marathon is now 11th October and not sure what to do about this with Malaga being in December. Can try and pb both Im waiting for ironman to give me a decision as we dont know when were going to be able to open water swim with all these restrictions in place but I was really hoping to do Hamburg this year so that i could have a go at Wales next year and try to check off all three uk ironmen races with Ireland the year after.
Do I defer my outlaw Nottingham place to next year, along with Manchester marathon and the Cheshire cat ride and use them as training blocks for Hamburg again and just note this year down as a write off? I’m still hoping there may be some kind of races towards then end of the year. I’ve been looking at London tri in August for the last few years but again theres no guaruntee that all this shit wont still be going on then.
What ever happens i’m still training i’m trying to stay positive and at least there’s beers on the beach running rugby tackles and shots to look forward to
